“Jenny Holzer: PROTECT PROTECT”
Where and when
Museum of Contemporary Art. 220 E Chicago Ave, 312-280-2660, mcachicago.org. Oct 25–Feb 1, 2009.
What it is
The MCA surveys American artist Holzer’s work from the 1990s through the present. Best known for her Truisms (at right) that flashed ambiguous statements such as ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE and , ABSOLUTE SUBMISSION CAN BE A FORM OF FREEDOM on electronic displays in Times Square, Holzer found other ways to question the status quo: The MCA show features paintings from her Redaction series, which critically depicts declassified U.S. government documents from the War on Terror.
Candidate connections
Holzer has a brilliant Twitter feed. You know who else receives praise for his early and innovative adoption of Twitter? Libertarian candidate Bob Barr.
