You’re already paying an (exfoliated) arm and a leg for that spa treatment, so when your aesthetician suggests an upgrade to your massage or pedicure, you might be tempted to refuse. But some add-ons are well worth the bucks. To help you figure out which indulgences will give you the most bliss for your bills, we sampled the most common upgrades, and asked Spa Association executive director Melinda Minton to chime in.
Foot mask
Cost $10
DETAILS
A thick lotion-type substance is added to feet during pedicures. It soaks into the skin for about ten minutes, and—depending on the type of mask—can get rid of impurities, soften the skin or rejuvenate it.
WE SAY
Unless your feet are in dire need of repair (they have loads of calluses and cracks), don’t bother. You’re already getting lotion applied during a pedicure, so your feet should be softened enough.
MINTON SAYS
It’s worth it. The product cost for the mask is expensive, and it’s hard to find technicians who can do feet really well.
