Spirit Rising Yoga
Director Shiva Singh Khalsa insists this center’s free 4:30–6:45am yoga sessions are “early morning” rather than “late night.” Call them what you will, the sadhana yoga sessions, which take place every Wednesday and Sunday, start with the recitation of sacred poetry, followed by kundalini yoga, mantra chanting and, finally, prayerful contemplation and readings. Why the odd hours? Khalsa says the time is known as amrit vela, or the most peaceful time on earth. 3717 N Ravenswood Ave, #220W, 773-975-9754 (class suspended until July 16).
Chicago Fitness Center
If you’re going to be pumping iron late at night, wouldn’t you feel better knowing a dozen of Chicago’s finest are just a shout away? The Chicago Fitness Center’s around-the-clock hours attract a lot of third-shift cops and firefighters who take advantage of the 50,000-square-foot Lincoln Park space, including amenities like a mixed-martial-arts dojo, a full-swing golf simulator, an indoor track and a steam room. 3131 N Lincoln Ave, 773-549-8181; 24-hour guest pass $10, two-for-one annual memberships start at $240 per person.
The Strange Beauty Show
Most salons close by 8pm or earlier, which means maintaining your ’do will require you to leave work early or go Britney-crazy with the shears. Not at Strange Beauty, where you can get a cut, color, dreadlocks, extensions and makeup application until 10pm. The salon’s private party room—complete with bar—can be booked for BYOB hair and makeup parties until 10pm, too. 1118 N Ashland Ave, 773-252-9522. Tue–Sat 11am–10pm; Sun noon–7pm.
