It would take a heart of stone not to feel for the plight of Kristin Neff and Rupert Isaacson, trying to deal with a four-year-old autistic son given to lengthy rages and resistant to toilet-training. Noting that little Rowan has an affinity for horses, they take him to Mongolia, the home of horseback riding and hot spot for shamanistic healing. It’s alternately heartbreaking and frustrating to watch them grasp at anything as a sign of progress. A cynic might suggest that the film is a promotional tool for the equine-therapy center Isaacson founded in Texas, and might suggest they have cashed in on their son’s condition.
