When determining how to tuck away your bike, first decide whether you’re willing to drill holes in your wall. We’ve come up with a few store-bought solutions (with and without drilling) for keeping your wheels out of the way. If you want to show your bike off trophy-style on the wall, try cheap-o (yet sturdy) hardware-store hooks. High ceilings can accommodate the oh-so-urban look of hanging your bike like a bat (pictured) with The Container Store’s steel v-shaped hook with a rubber-coated tip to protect your wheels ($6 each, 908 W North Ave, 312-654-8450, containerstore.com). Just make sure to drill into a stud within the wall so the weight of the bike is fully supported. For folks who don’t want to make a dent in their walls, Kozy’s Cyclery offers an easy-to-install pole system (pictured, bottom, $150, locations around the city, kozy.com) for ceilings 7–11-feet high. It comes with two brackets to hold two bikes but has the capacity to hold four. While the price tag seems a bit steep, this option will save you the time and cost of repairing your walls or ceiling when you move. Plus, you can pack up the pole and bring it to your new pad.
