Found Satellite television dish in Ravenswood, 10:30am on September 17
The process Right away, I knew this dish had a second life: as a clock. So I scavenged it from the alley, cleaned it with a garden hose and then detached the arm by loosening the four screws on the back of the concave dish. I cut 12 links from a metal belt I no longer wear, arranged them on the dish and glued them where numbers 1–12 on a clock belong. With a cordless drill, I made a hole in the center of the dish and then threaded through the clockworks. I assembled the hands and put a double-A battery in the back of the clock to start it.
The materials Battery-operated clockworks and hands ($10) and two-ounce bottle of Gorilla Glue ($6) at Tom Thumb Hobby & Crafts (1026 Davis St, Evanston, 847-869-9575). Total cost: $16.
