Ship happens Where Marilyn Miller’s going, she doesn’t need roads. Now that the Chicago Water Taxi service has returned from its annual winter hiatus, Miller (pictured left in a red coat) spends part of her commute to and from her job at WGN Radio the same way she has for eight years: on the Chicago River. In the morning, Miller, a Glenview resident, hops off the Metra at Union Station and climbs aboard a yellow, checkered vessel at a dock below Madison Street. The boat shuttles Miller and other CTA-weary commuters east to the Michigan Avenue dock at the base of the Wrigley Building across the street from her office. With a quick stop at the LaSalle/Clark dock, the trip is 10 minutes—half the time it takes by bus. “You’re not packed into a cramped bus, you always have a spot to sit and you don’t get to work grumpy,” Miller says. “And when they say they’re going to be there, they are there.” Hear that, Ron Huberman?
