Field day In 1941, Marshall Field’s 28 Shop (pictured) opened, and quickly became an international fashion hub visited by the likes of Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. Named for its private address—28 East Washington Street—and its private salons, all 28 of them, the chic shop made trying on clothes, or, even lifting a finger, verboten. Instead, a model displayed gowns while the shopper rested on chaise lounges alongside flowing tapestries. These days, the shop, which still hawks designer duds, doesn’t deliver quite as much pomp and circumstance. But on Fri 28, Macy’s Glamorama, a tradition carried on from the former Marshall Field’s, gives a taste of yesteryear’s extravagance with a runway show featuring 28 Shop designers.
