Naperville Wine Festival
This celebration brings together 40 wineries for one of the largest tastings in the Midwest. Swoosh, sniff and sip—or watch master sommeliers from Midwest Wine School and French import Côtes du Rhône Wines give pairing demonstrations. If you prefer a brewski to a Bordeaux, stop by the outdoor Belgian Beer Café featuring Stella, Leffe and Hoegaarden beers. Just don’t forget to bring along a designated driver (or take Metra)—Naperville is a hike from Chicago.
SIP Your $30 ticket includes ten tastings. Sample drinks like local Lynfred Winery’s spiced wines, Martini & Rossi’s sparkling prosecco and Gekkeikan’s plum-flavored sake. Still thirsty? Ten more sips will cost you a mere $5. Naper Settlement, 523 S Webster St, Naperville (napervillewinefestival.com). Fri 18, 4–10pm; Sat 19, 2–9pm, ticket sales end at 7:30pm; $30, advance $25, designated driver $10, under 21 free with adult.

World Music Festival
Having previously introduced Chicago audiences to hipster favorites like Mexican classical guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and Gypsy-punk rockers Gogol Bordello, this music fest sets the bar high for itself. More than 50 events take place in 21 venues over six days. The scenester factor will be especially high this year, with musicians like toy pianist Phyllis Chen and French pan-Mediterranean electronic group Watcha Clan providing the entertainment.
SIP A hipster-esque Pabst ($4) in order to blend in at Bottom Lounge, Sunday night’s venue for California soul band Fool’s Gold. Fri 18–Sept 24. Twenty-one venues including Millennium Park, Michigan Ave between Monroe and Randolph Sts (worldmusicfestivalchicago.org). Times vary, free–$15.
