Radical course of action Steven Carrelli was invited to create one hole of a 9-hole miniature golf course using recycled Astroturf as part of a fund-raiser for the Experimental Station and Material Exchange, two art co-ops that address social issues. The point was to have the design serve another utilitarian purpose, so the Columbia College art teacher crafted the Astroturf pieces to snap together into panniers, or bike bags. The bags, which are “a little aerodynamically impaired,” are more of a prototype—but Carrelli found that his design was reusable in more than one way. “I can bike somewhere with it, putt on it and snap it back together.” Want to try your luck on the temporary course?
