You got that right. The style that I’m kinda working is Japanese street fashion. It’s like cyber-goth.

Those claws are insane.
You should see the head that goes with them!

Is it hard out there for a cyber-goth in the summertime?
Why, because you’d think we’d be really hot? No. The difference between regular goth fashion and cyber-goth fashion is that you don’t wear that many clothes.

So what are you up to?
I’m going to see Ayabie at Logan Square Auditorium. They’re visual J-rock. It’s really upbeat and you can dance to it…like Finnish metal. [Laughs]

Is that Ayabie on your magazine?
Yes! It’s Shoxx, a Japanese music mag that I got at Mitsuwa Market, the Japanese grocery store in Arlington Heights. It’s all guys in the band, but they just look like girls.

Where are you from?
Hobart, Indiana. I live with my parents. It’s going well, though. They don’t make me do chores all the time. I have a very accepting family. My siblings are weird, too, just in their own ways. They all have kids and houses and everything.

How are the Millennium Park stroller-pushers treating you?
A little kid just started crying when he saw me. I was like, “Omigod, he’s crying! Crying in fear!”
