Where did your signature “woo woo” cheer come from?
Woo woo means win win, like I want the Cubs to win win!
You’re the unofficial Cubs mascot. Do you think you’re a morale booster for the team?
I feel my cheering helps out a lot. I don’t get the recognition I deserve from the ball club, but it’s not going to break my spirit. Back when they had just 3,000 people going to the games, I was at Wrigley. Now they have over 35,000 people per game, and I’m still here.
You get older, but the girls stay the same age.
[Laughs] Well, there’s a lot of nice-looking women ’round here. I got fans all over the universe. My name’s all over the universe, all over the Internet. People take pictures with me, and I try to accommodate.
You and Ernie Banks may have been separated at birth.
Yeah, I’ve been told I look like Ernie. I was also told I look like Denzel Washington. [Laughs]
Ever considered becoming a Sox fan—even for a split second?
Back in the day, me and the old bleacher bums used to go out to Sox park. It was all in fun. But I don’t be hatin’ on nobody.
It must be a little annoying hearing people yell “woo woo” at you on the street all the time. Ever thought about changing your mantra?
Whatever God wants me to say to the people, I’ll say it and be myself and smile.
