Galas for prestigious places like the Art Institute are usually black-tie affairs, but that’s not the case with this fashion extravaganza produced by Macy’s. Guests took last year’s country-western theme to heart—arriving decked out in cowboy boots and hats—so this year we can expect to see anything from big hair to acid-washed denim, because the theme is all about the ’80s. Hit up vintage shops like pistol bazaar (1717 W Chicago Ave, 312-929-2350) and Clothes Optional (2918 N Clark St, 773-296-6630) for authentic ’80s wear and mix it up with new pieces—because you want to look totally rad for the show and after-party at Macy’s, which will feature a Rubik’s Cube lounge, Pac-Man arcade games and neon chandeliers.
