Photo paddles

GOOD HUMOR, MAN Local artist (and member of art collective the Mighty Bearcats) Steven Haulenbeek got the idea for his latest project from last year’s presidential election. “I was watching the debates, and eating these potato chips [with smiley faces on them] and held up a chip so it covered John McCain’s face,” he says. It was a humorous moment that inspired Haulenbeek to create these photo paddles. The clear acrylic sticks each feature a small image (including a mustache, luscious red lips and a dry-eraseable thought bubble) on the end. Hold up a paddle between your subject’s face and the camera while you take a picture to create a silly, sexy or simply strange illusion.
