You’re debuting a new line in this show.
I am. It’s [my] namesake label, and it’s definitely different than Organik Revolution was. I kind of put Organik Revolution together because of [last year’s Chicago Fashion] Incubator opportunity. But now that I kind of got my feet wet with how this whole fashion thing works, I feel a lot better launching something that’s really definitive of me as a designer. It’s kind of more of the look that I was going for.
What’s the difference between this line and Organik Revolution?
Well, Organik Revolution was an ecofriendly line. [With] Kristin Hassan, I’m still trying to be an earth-positive company, but the pricing is what the issue was. I’m trying to do something that is a little more money conscious but still totally trendy and fun.
How do you describe this new spring collection?
For spring, I was inspired by a lot of candy and cupcakes and bright colors and fun stuff like that. There’s a lot of flirty silhouettes and bright colors. We do a lot of ruffles and bows, just really girly things. But the pieces themselves are really easy. They are not hard to manage. There’s a wrap dress that would fit anybody. The pieces have more structure to them than my previous stuff does, so that is another difference.
What’s your favorite kind of candy?
Probably Sour Patch Kids, but I’m also a chocolate person. I love chocolate cake and chocolate cupcakes.
Favorite cupcake place in the city?
Bleeding Heart Bakery is a really cool place.
Red Doll by Tatyana creations are insanely great.
