Mind over business matters When Hillary Johnson lost her corporate job last winter due to companywide layoffs, she found the silver lining rather quickly. She and her husband, Matthew, realized the time had come to pursue their passion: teaching others the joy of Chinese exercises. Less than six months later, their nonprofit center opened its doors in Chinatown (conveniently located next door to Matthew’s martial-arts studio) with a weekly roster of group meditation, qi gong and tai chi classes ($80 per month for group classes; $60 for hour-long individual lessons), corporate stress-reduction programs and one-off workshops led by guest instructors. 500 W Cermak Rd, suite 533 (708-769-4557, calmchicago.org).
