Japanese American Service Committee (4427 N Clark St, 773-275-7212, jasc-chicago.org)
What usually happens here The organization originally served the needs of the Japanese immigrants (and their American-born children) who left World War II internment camps to resettle in Chicago. It now preserves and raises awareness of Japanese-American culture and heritage through social services, cultural programs (such as cooking classes) and special events (like its annual New Year’s party).
The shot One of the social services offered at the JASC is the flu vaccination on October 21, 10am–1pm. It’s free for those with Medicare Part B (tell your grandma!); everyone else must pay $12.
O’Hare International Airport
What usually happens here This is the second-busiest airport in the country, which means a whole lot of people come here to find out their flights have been canceled and to lose their luggage. Oh yeah, planes come and go at this hub, too.
The shot Flight delayed again? Take a break from the bar and head to one of these five shot spots: At the UIC Medical Center in Terminal 2 (Mon–Fri 7am–7pm; Sat, Sun 9am–9pm) or the kiosks in Terminal 1 (at Concourse B and C), Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 (Mon–Fri 7am–7pm; Sat 11am–5pm; Sun 11am–7pm). All shots are $35. (Midway also offers the shot for $35 at the kiosk just past security.)
St. Pius V Church (1910 S Ashland Ave, 312-226-6161, stpiusv.org)
What usually happens here The people of Pilsen flock to this Catholic church to pray at mass and go to confession.
The shot If your penance is to feel a split second of pain, St. Pius has you covered on Sunday 4. The church offers the flu shot in its basement 9am–3pm for free.
South Loop Wine Cellar (1442 S Michigan Ave, 312-356-0630, southloopwinecellar.com)
What usually happens here Vinophiles come for wine tastings and to stock up on adult beverages for parties.
The shot You always leave a wine tasting with a little more knowledge about your new favorite red or white, but at recent tastings here, customers also got flu shots. The shop tells us it’ll most likely have another wine/shot event this fall; check its website for details.
