Berry Chill
(635 N State St, 312-266-2445)
The scoop From the name to the graffiti-inspired splashes of color to the hip-hop videos playing during our visit, this buzzing River North shop is the first of what could become a homegrown mini-empire for “Yogurteur” Michael Farah. Unlike the überpopular coastal chain Pinkberry (which isn’t actually made from real yogurt), Farah’s fro-yo has been certified by the National Yogurt Association as the real deal, meaning it contains healthful live and active cultures.
The skinny One ounce contains 4 grams of carbs, 20 calories and 0 grams of fat.
The verdict The texture is about as good as can be, balancing between light and creamy. But the flavor suggests there might be some added citric acid, bumping up the yogurt’s natural tartness to an almost tongue-tingling, lemonlike taste that would clash with any chocolate-based toppings.
Im so proud of Kim for not allowing anyone to hinder her goal of opening a fro-yo shop! You're an inspiration Kim!
