Bar DeVille
Description
The corner location, window neon, "cold beer" cooler and Art Deco bar might lead you to believe this spot is run by a septuagenarian with stories to spare. Investigate further and you'll find an extensive beer list, butter-soft leather booths, brocade wallpaper and hipsters shooting stick in an antler-adorned back room—signs that owners Matt Eisler and Kevin Heisner might be youngsters with expensive taste, but they've set their corner tap on the path toward longevity.
Hours
Sun–Fri 5pm–2am; Sat 5pm–3am.
Its okay... rather go to High Dive or Cleos. Better music and drinks without the Lincoln Park wannabees.
i don't know what bar you walked in to. bright, hardly. dave matthews? i heard anything from said ryan adams to the pixies in the hour i was there, but no DMB. does it look like a lot of money was spent fixing up the joint? yes, but is that a bad thing? i think it is a great addition to the neighborhood. for me, it is just a nice bar i can walk down the street to for a good beer or a whiskey (they have a pretty nice selection). i'll be curious to check back on the weekend and see what it's like.
Sadly, I have to agree. These people clearly spent a ton of money to revamp what used to be an old man bar, only to create a haven for the weekend hipster set. Possibly the worst music I have ever heard combined with poor, poor service. Not even the ironic chandelier could bring me back. Too bad.
Hoping for a cool dive closer to Grand? Keep hoping. Stopped by Bar DeVille on a Tuesday night to find a bright, bright bar, with one over-worked bartender who couldn't make drinks, and loud Dave Matthews Band/Ryan Adams music. Ugh. For me, not so good. For the ex-Wrigleyville/Lincoln Park crowd, probably perfect. They can pretend that they are in an edgy neighborhood (oooh, look, we went south of Division!), but still be able to have the creature comforts of any number of LP, WP, RN bars.
