“James Welling: Hapax Legomena.”
Description
We're cool with anyone who finds drama in phyllo dough and aluminum foil. This compact overview of Welling's 30-year career shows the Los Angeles–based photographer making the most of everyday materials, ditching his camera, appropriating and altering images and otherwise experimenting. An emphasis on abstraction links his diverse projects; even photos of the Farnsworth House and other modernist gems seem as concerned with the properties of light and color as they are with architecture.
