National Geographic Crittercam: “The World Through Animal Eyes”
Prices
Tickets: Included with admission; through April 11
Description
If a lion roars in the jungle and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Thanks to National Geographic’s Crittercams, we know the answer (it’s yes). The small audio- and video-recording devices, which are safely and unobtrusively attached to land and sea animals in the wild, are the subject of this exhibit. Visitors to the sea turtles section can watch point-of-view footage from atop a life-size model of an endangered leatherback. In the penguin pod, you can get a look at Penguin Ranch, the Crittercam research team’s Antarctica HQ. Kids can even crawl through a tunnel to come face-to-face with a live penguin wearing a Crittercam. When they exit, they’ll see footage of themselves from the penguin’s point of view.
