Description
Though the phrase Manifest Destiny wasn't co-opted by American politicians until the 1840s, its impulse was on display much earlier. Or at least it is in Howard Korder's sharp and expansive picaresque tale, which focuses on the transcontinental travels of an Irish immigrant between 1815 and 1857.
