Description
Ancient Greek inventor Archimedes is credited with being the first to cry “eureka.” Agitated by a finding, he ran naked into the street to share the news—precisely the human, haphazard, and somewhat lunatic fringe of history that Contraption captures as only the Neo-Futurists can, with aplomb, archness and stuff from Ace Hardware. Its crackerjack quartet efficiently hustles the tale along, but the play never seems as inspired as the great minds it tracks. The missing cog is its own “eureka” moment, but on the whole this Contraption is still worth observing.—MP
