    Description
It's easy to see why the Israeli artist's video The Casting won the 2008 Whitney Biennial's highest honor: Fast weaves together an American soldier's stories about a bad date in Bavaria and the accidental shooting of an Iraqi civilian into a seamless, surreal meditation on memory. Unfortunately, the combination of morticians and adorable tots in Fast's other video, Looking Pretty for God (After GW), comes off as contrived despite his miraculous editing skills—but the piece still yields valuable insights into what we expect from images.
