“Actions: What You Can Do with the City.”
Description
Don't be surprised if you find yourself gardening with beer, painting your own bike lanes or hiring sheep to mow your lawn after visiting this survey curated by the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. “Actions” is particularly inspiring because its 99 suggestions for improving city life are already being implemented; if Los Angeles collective Fallen Fruit can grow tomatoes on traffic islands, why can't we? Not all of the “actors” are lefty architects, artists and activists: Analyses of Skatestoppers and anti-sitting devices remind us to pay closer attention to the ways authorities control urban space. An engaging exhibition design conveys the buzz and monumentality of the built environment—a rarity in architecture shows. Through Mar 13.—LW
