Description
Lyric gives us as good a production as we can imagine for Berg's innovative 12-tone shriek opera about a femme fatale. Marlis Petersen sings the killer lead role with ease, and William Burden (Alwa) and Wolfgang Schöne (Dr. Schön and Jack the Ripper) are forceful as the seductress's stalkers. Paul Curran's and Kevin Knight's stylish production gives this seldom-staged opera the rich detail it deserves. Sir Andrew Davis admirably conducts the beautiful and difficult score as if it were Wagner. Highly recommended.When
