Hope VI
Description
Hope VI—an overhaul plan for perilous public-housing projects—certainly won't live up to its name for Hope, age six, the child of longtime public-housing residents evicted by the scheme. Playwright Nambi E. Kelley includes some multilayered portraits of the adults in Hope's world, but others, such as unrelentingly violent mom Queenie, pale in comparison; her out-of-left-field twists feel exploitative.—Christopher Shea
