Description
Jenny Connell's new play toggles uneasily among a number of interconnected story lines involving a harried New York mom and two daughters summering in Maine, the proprietor of the nearby campground and a troubled Marine returned from duty in Iraq. While Summer People combines foreign policy and domestic drama to less than satisfying effect, the Gift's production is well acted scene to scene. Still, director Paul D'Addario can't seem to illuminate the intent of Connell's awkward juxtaposition.—KVWhen
