Description
For all its liberal seasoning with Yiddish and references to the Pentateuch, Alan Gross's new comedy is at heart another act of boomer self-mythologizing. A Chicago family is torn asunder when older brother Rob (Ian Paul Custer) announces he's dropped out of college to become a folk singer. A Jewish folk singer from the Midwest. And younger brother Billy's bar mitzvah is scheduled for late November, 1963. Something is happening, and we know all too well what it is, Mr. Gross.—JB
