Superior Donuts
Description
No, Superior Donuts, the play Tracy Letts has written to follow up his unexpected smash hit August: Osage County, does not in any practical way measure up to its predecessor. But this new boulevard comedy about the small-fry adventures and misadventures of the proprietors and patrons of a doughnut shop in Uptown is a low comedy any Chicagoan can get high off of. Since Letts had less time to develop the material than originally anticipated, it resembles a cocktail-napkin doodle more than a Picasso. But it still drips with soulful, energized sarcasm, and Tina Landau's cast is thoroughly authentic.—CP
