Takkatsu
Prices
Average main course: $15.
Description
The signature dish here is tonkatsu, pork sirloin (served in one piece or sliced longitudinally and stacked) dusted with panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and tenderly fried. This spot used to attract mostly Japanese customers who longed for homeland classics; now, many non-Asians also come for Berkshire hog meat, the lush, flavorful preference of pork-o-philes. Also recommended is the tempura-light gyoza, a worthy accompaniment to tonkatsu. The chef, hopelessly devoted to panko, also cooks up katsu-style (breaded and fried) hamburgers and salmon.
