Description
Don't be deterred by the bare-bones look of this new Algerian carryout shop. The handful of forlorn items languishing in the steam table come from co-owner Mohammed Djeddour, who also owns the adjacent Tassili, which aims at a cabbie clientele. But grab a paper menu and you'll see surprisingly ambitious salads, wraps and sides, courtesy of former Mundial co-owner/chef Kate Garcia. Try a trio of salads: apricot-studded Israeli couscous, spinach and strawberries in mustard vinaigrette and cubed watermelon with cucumber dressed in thin, minty yogurt. Crêpelike Algerian-style flatbreads prove perfect for soaking up the mint pesto drizzled on wraps of roasted vegetables or hunks of roasted lamb, and pistachio shortbreads complement the carryout package for a complete dinner at home.
