Description
Proprietor Izola White's corn muffins need no butter—they're buttery enough all on their own. Her candied sweet potatoes need no tinkering—they're already perfect, redolent with baking spices. Her fried chicken has a dark crust that cracks open to reveal juicy meat and her fried catfish arrives with a sweet-tart, pickle-studded tartar sauce—and if you have a problem with either (which you won't), Ms. White is usually right there in the restaurant, ready to fix it. Which is probably how she's been able to keep her restaurant open every day (except Wednesdays) for 52 years.
