As summer winds down, flavors just keep getting kicked up at this West Loop favorite, where chef Michael McDonald amplifies classics with seasonal ingredients in dishes like the Berkshire pork chop flanked by baby turnips, grilled asparagus and pickled peaches in a bing cherry balsamic sauce. Stephanie Prida is just as bold with her desserts, putting out grown-up versions of nostalgic warm-weather treats such as a cornbread funnel cake with glazed blueberries, candied bacon streusel and fro-yo. Specials like $5 wood-fired pizza on Fridays and Thursday nights in the bar (featuring $7 Wagyu gourmet hot dogs and $4 burgers) are hard to resist—and get into.
